The rats on the 5% casein diet ate much less food than the rats on the 20% casein diet. Expecting this, Campbell and his student divided the rats into three groups rather than two. They fed the third group 20% casein but restricted their total food intake to the measly amount of food the 5% casein group was eating spontaneously.

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of alpha-lipoic acid (LA) on brain oxidative stress (OS) in unilateral intrastriatal (6-OHDA) injected rats. Forty male Wistar rats, four months old (– g), were evaluated.

Half of them received LA (35 mg/kg i.p.) from the start to the end of the experiment. Currently, diets with high total antioxidant capacity and antioxidant-rich foods, are considered to be interesting approaches for prevention of several chronic diseases (cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome, many types of cancers, etc.), and management of some pathologic conditions such as type 2 diabetes, and insulin resistance ().Cited by: Materials and Methods: Following Institutional Animal Ethics Committee permission, the study was conducted in male Wistar rats ( g).

The model was developed using a high fat (vanaspati ghee: coconut oil, ) oral diet along with 25% fructose (high sugar) added in Cited by:   Also worthy of consideration is the possibility that the duration of sleep deprivation might be a major determinant of its effects on the brain antioxidant status.

In a previous study using prepubertal male and female mice, 6 h of total sleep deprivation by “gentle-handling” was not associated with statistically significant changes in whole Author: Olakunle J.

Onaolapo, Adejoke Y. Onaolapo. Animal model studies showed that a high cholesterol diet increased serum T-Cho and TG levels and it reduced both sperm concentration and motility in mice [6], rats [7, 8] and rabbits [9].

On the. In previous study, VCO diet significantly enhanced the antioxidant status of rats after 45 days of feeding, and the VCO demonstrated antioxidant activity in vitro and in vivo [12]. Nevertheless.

These may improve total antioxidant status through the mechanism of reduced production of free radicals. Indeed, recently it has been shown that long-term intake of a high-protein diet modulated acid–base metabolism, which was neutralized by dietary supplementation of potassium citrate in male rats.

The Mediterranean diet is associated with a low incidence of physiologic and metabolic non-communicable diseases such as hypertension, obesity, and insulin resistance.

These chronic diseases are closely related to oxidative status, which is determined by the balance between oxidant and antioxidant levels. The Mediterranean diet is rich in foods with important antioxidant properties. The World Health Organization (WHO) reported that alcohol consumption is a serious problem in adolescents.

The aim of the study was to assess the influence of the time of exposure of various alcoholic beverages on body mass as well as on select parameters of liver antioxidant defense in adolescent Wistar rats. Thirty-day-old animals were divided into 12 groups (six animals in each):.

It has been proven that dietary eicosapentaenoic acid (C n-3 or EPA) protects the heart against the deleterious effects of sepsis in female rats. We do not know if this is the case for male rodents. In this case, the efficiency of other n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) remains to be determined in both female and male rats.

This study aimed at (i) determining whether dietary EPA is. Oxidants, Antioxidants and Impact of the Oxidative Status in Male Reproduction is an essential reference for fertility practitioners and research and laboratory professionals interested in learning about the role of reactive oxygen species in sperm physiology and pathology.

The book focuses on unravelling the pathophysiology of oxidative stress. Ginger is known to possess potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Therefore, in vivo studies in rats were initiated to investigate if ginger fed through diet can improve their antioxidant status.

Inbred male Wistar/NIN rats were divided. Zinc restriction during fetal and postnatal development could program cardiovascular diseases in adulthood. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of zinc restriction during fetal life, lactation, and/or post-weaning growth on cardiac inflammation, apoptosis, oxidative stress, and nitric oxide system of male and female adult rats.

Wistar rats were fed a low- or a control zinc diet. The results of study show that female rats seem to be better adapted to changing thermal conditions of the environment, developing not only morphological, but also antioxidant, defense mechanisms, mainly in the form of increased erythrocyte superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity and glutathione (GSH) concentration to restore the pro-oxidant.

Imbalance between antioxidant and oxidative stress is a major risk factor for pathogenesis of some chronic diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This study aimed to determine antioxidant and oxidative stress status, and also theirs association with respiratory function of male COPD patients to find the antioxidant.

This research was conducted to evaluate the effects of raisin consumption on the spatial memory and morphometric parameters of brain tissue in aging rats. Old rats (20 months of age) were divided into 2 groups: control and raisin, with 6 rats in each group.

Body Weight: In all four groups of both, male and female rats used in this Trial (II), there were statistically-significant (Pfemale gaining much less than male rats.

Administering Maca-GO to. Male Sprague Dawley rats with high fat diet for 6 weeks: g/kg/day aged garlic extract for 4 weeks: Potentiates the effects of exercise on body weight reduction, lipid metabolism, and inflammation suppression in the liver: Female Sprague Dawley rats with high fat diet for 8 weeks: mg/kg SAMC three times per week for 8 weeks.

The effects of Se and VE supplementation on MeHg-mediated systemic oxidative stress, antioxidant defense, inflammation, and endothelial dysfunction are carried out in an animal model. Male Sprague–Dawley rats were fed a starch-based casein diet or the same diet supplemented with 1 or 3 mg Se/kg diet and with or without or mg VE/kg diet.

Antioxidant status can be used as a biomarker to assess chronic disease risk and diet can modulate antioxidant defence. To examine effects of vegetarian diet and variations in the habitual intakes.

Here, we investigated the effect of perinatal maternal high-fat diet (HF, 29% of calories as fat) on the ECS and antioxidant system in liver of male and female adult rat offspring ( days old). This study aimed to assess the effect of date seed steeping on the indigenous antioxidant enzymes status in rats induced by alloxan.

On average, men who participated in this study showed a reduction in sperm concentration by percent per year, leading to a total decline of more than 32 percent over the 17 year study period r studies across the world are also highlighting the decline in male fertility.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of isoflavone on serum lipids and antioxidant enzymes activities in growing rats fed high lard diet. Twenty four female Sprague-Dawley rats (body weight 50–60 g) were divided into three groups, control, high fat (HF, lard g/kg diet) and high fat + isoflavone (HFI, lard g/kg diet.

Interaction between fluoride, nutritional status, dietary habits, environmental factors, and the body's response to ingested or inhaled fluoride are important in understanding the nature of the disease.

For example, earlier studies carried out on humans at this institute showed that sorghum-based diet retained more fluoride than rice-based diet. ate the antioxidant status of body organs [24,25].

In our study, it was used in an experiment on W istar rats to compare those breathing Bol d’Air Jacquier® with a con. It is well known that lifestyle and diet play a role in the development of kidney disease. Several studies indicated that abnormalities in lipid metabolism can often accompany and exacerbate renal disease [1, 2].Hypercholesterolemia is well-known to be an independent risk factor for renal injury [] and to aggravate the pathogenesis of a variety of clinical and experimental renal diseases [4–6].

This book is an example of a multidimensional book. It succeeded well in integrating topics of wide and current interest dealing with antioxidant status, nutrition, health and disease. The result is a book that is very readable and can benefit a broad spectrum of s: 1.

Diet plays an important role in the primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease. The growing perception that abnormal haemostatic processes of coagulation, platelet aggregation and fibrinolysis contribute to cardiovascular disease aetiology motivated this review on the relationships of diet, specific foods and nutrients with haemostatic function.

The misconception about dietary supplements being safe has led many into the in-patient wards. Cellgevity® (CGV) is a Max International premiere antioxidant supplement formula used by a large population. This study evaluated the effects of therapeutic and supra-therapeutic doses of CGV on reproductive function and biochemical indices in Wistar rats.

3. Potential for the prevention of immune-related disease in a study that suggested the seed extract is a source of betulinic acid. Finally, the two human studies of camu camu are highly suggestive. While these studies differ in their design and implementation, together they point to the potential contribution of camu camu as a dietary.

Abstract. Background: The metabolic syndrome is a socially important disorder of energy utilization and storage, recognized as a factor predisposing to the development of depression, anxiety and cognitive impairment in humans.

Aim: In the present study we examined the effects of vitamin K2 on the behavior of rats with metabolic syndrome and looked for relationships with the effects on blood sugar. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of dietary fat, carnitine supplementation, and exercise on oxidative damage and antioxidant status.

Male Wistar rats (60 days old) were fed diets containing either hydrogenated fat (HF) or peanut oil (PO) with or without mg % (of dry diet) carnitine.

When it comes to boosting antioxidant intake, recent research indicates there's little benefit from taking diet supplements.

A better way, according to a report in the September issue of Mayo. ANNUA PAGANINI-HILL, in Treatment of the Postmenopausal Woman (Third Edition), E Coronary Heart Disease. Coronary heart disease (CHD) is the most common and deadly disease of women. An American woman's lifetime risk of developing CHD is 32%, and it killseach year (62).Women are more likely than men to die within one year after a heart attack (38% versus 25%) and have higher.

Demographic characteristics stratified by the smoking status of the study subjects are described in Table median ages were. Vitamin C is another very important antioxidant for both male and female fertility.

Vitamin C improves hormone levels and increases fertility in women with luteal phase defect, according to a new study published in Fertility and Sterility (;–61). The study: women with luteal phase defect were enrolled in the current study.

The. Although major research efforts have focused on how specific components of foodstuffs affect health, relatively little is known about a more fundamental aspect of diet, the frequency and circadian timing of meals, and potential benefits of intermittent periods with no or very low energy intakes.

The most common eating pattern in modern societies, three meals plus snacks every day, is abnormal. This study aimed to investigate the effect and possible underlying mechanisms of high-fat diet-induced obesity on spermatogenesis in male rats.

A total of 45 male rats were randomly divided into control (n = 15, normal diet) and obesity groups (n = 30, high-fat diet) and were fed for 16 weeks. Body weight and organ indexes were determined after sacrifice.

The aim of our study was to evaluate oxidative stress parameters, antioxidant status markers and their response to vitamin E supplementation in experimental hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism.
